simple
easy to give
costs little
unlimited value

not created equal
as some are cruel
symbol of evil
intent is pain

a child
as smile
cold melts
evil losses

always return them
when given free
nurtures the good
save the dreams

somewhere deep below
under the layer of white
lies the hope of renewal
waiting for its chance

we hold dear the promise
given freely to us all
as are whispered reminders
soft like spring breezes

but long is the winter
a chill which has no end
as promises fade away
like a winter sun

and still we wait with hope
holding each promise dear
though we can clearly see
the spring is not approaching

it is time to build scaffolds
raise ladders to the sky
and tear the clouds apart
to make the promise true

until that day arrives
the forecast will remain
winter storm warnings
severe cold advisory in effect
