here we stand once more
stranded by our own deeds
looking out upon raging seas
waves threatening to engulf
how did we we end up here
losing our way amid dreams
following the wrong lights
believing the falsehoods
too late to try a swim for it
no ships are out there to help
it is only our perfect storm
we must face it on our own
it is time to stand tall
face forward and start
attack the waves head on
feel them on our ankles
accepting our responsibility
for the actions we have done
is the first step in honor
be honest with yourself
I made a pledge to myself to write a poem a day for the entire year. Now to follow through. I preface this with a reminder; most of the poems written for this year long project will be done so spontaneously and therefore will not be edited. Bear with me on this. The project goal is to get them written over getting them perfect. Several times there will simply be the poem with no title. When that happens suggestions for a title will be welcomed in the comments.
I find adversity leads to poignant poetry once again. The words are overwhelmingly powerful and redemptive. I wouldn't change a word. As for a title: The Discipline of the Waves
