What new miracle is this
another nation cries out
another people seek life
without political oppression
we cheer those brave souls
and wish them victory
as we watch our decay
eating away our own
they seek political reform
to improve the way of life
making things better for all
to relieve the burden
while here, within the bastion
the beacon of democracy
we watch as rights fade
taken away on pretexts
to balance poor budgets
the poor lose their hope
to pay the price for the rich
who are never held to blame
we give away freedoms
in hopes to remain secure
being fed a diet of fear
remain afraid like good sheep
we praise our bothers
as they seek a new path
hoping to attain the rights
we are watching slip away
I made a pledge to myself to write a poem a day for the entire year. Now to follow through. I preface this with a reminder; most of the poems written for this year long project will be done so spontaneously and therefore will not be edited. Bear with me on this. The project goal is to get them written over getting them perfect. Several times there will simply be the poem with no title. When that happens suggestions for a title will be welcomed in the comments.
May it spark, then ignite enough fervor to fight within ourselves, among those in our families and neighborhoods, even to the capitals in which we live.
