a chill wind comes
sweeping the plains
with the first real taste
of the winter soon to come
leaves prepare for the trip
heading down slowly
always in random patterns
on their one way flight
the season is changing
signs surround us
sights sounds smells
each with its own place
on the wind hints drift
of leaves being burned
wood smoke as well
as back yard fires glow
other scents caress as well
outdoor markets filling
enjoyed with hands warmed
by a steamy cup of hot cider
yes the air is cooler
but the warmth remains
moving deeper inside
keeping our hearts filled
its time for warm sweaters
and so perfect for cuddles
long slow strolls as well
sharing the day hand in hand
and what better way to say
happy birthday to my love
on her very special day
then to say I love you with cider and a donut???
I made a pledge to myself to write a poem a day for the entire year. Now to follow through. I preface this with a reminder; most of the poems written for this year long project will be done so spontaneously and therefore will not be edited. Bear with me on this. The project goal is to get them written over getting them perfect. Several times there will simply be the poem with no title. When that happens suggestions for a title will be welcomed in the comments.

You touched on many notes of the day, of the season. My thought is to make this longer so my mind can continue on this lovely fall walk....
ReplyDeleteLovely!
Feels the arrival of autumn with this poem!
