The Two Hundred Twenty Second, August 9, 2011

feel the thrill of it
the roller coaster
rising slowly higher
before the rapid fall

up and down again
jerking side to side
wind in the face
making eyes tear

moving so fast
lifting from the seat
slamming back down
bouncing like a ball

we end up battered
beaten and bruised
hurrying back round
waiting to ride again

if only I could be
that eager in all trials
happy for the encounter
and eager to continue

learning a life lesson
laughing through it
jumping up excited
ready to face the next

  1. So, I see the first four stanzas are there to make me think it's about a roller coaster. The final two stanzas explain, generally, to what you were referring. They do more.

They remind me of "the enlightened" who are like those smiling wise men we see. They are touted to be "eager for trials" and so on.

Does anyone reading this poem have a trial which, in retrospect, you could have rejoiced?

  2. I feel that riding a roller coaster is very much like falling in love. Especially the battered and bruised part and yet we want to fall in love again :)
