The ONE HUNDREDTH, Apr. 9, 2011

Preface: One hundred .... I am surprised I have not only kept at it but that I have managed to find things to write on. A century today and its waiting for your reading pleasure. A special thanks to all of you that stop by to share my little madness. #100 is ready! Have a great day!

I sometimes sit alone and sing
it doesn't matter what song
it is the act of singing alone
that lifts my spirits higher

emotions ride upon the lyrics
drifting around and through me
creating dualities of sensations
juxtapositions of harmonies

singing for myself alone
brings me personal pleasure
happy in the expression
of thoughts through music

other feelings come as well
from the words themselves
two sensations at one time
thrilling my perception

powerful lyrics stir the spirit
amplified by the very joy
given in setting the words free
and the effect deeply moves

today I sought inspiration
as I sang some old favorites
and instead found comfort
in being with familiar friends

motivational works lifted
brought chills to my skin
and hope to my heart
too much energy to sit still

though I may sound flat
happily singing off key
the magic keeps working
and my spirit soars free

there was such a need for me
in my struggle to wake today
gray drab skies pressing in
leeching away hopes of elation

and so I turned to my music
those faithful friends of mine
and shared with them my day
disproving the old theory

you really can pick yourself up!!

The Ninety Ninth, Apr. 8, 2011

a thousand soft cool kisses
lightly caressing heated skin
soothing the fever burning
with welcomed tenderness

anticipation grows slowly
minutes seeming to be days
and days are forever long
as winter ruled the land

today the rule has changed
spring is claiming power
temporary illnesses abound
spring fever is epidemic

morning rain lightly falls
suffering souls congregate
feeling the morning rain
as it soothes the fevers

temporary malady fades
the masses improving
until the 3:00 pm cure
its home opener in the D.

The Ninety Eighth, Apr. 7, 2011

once upon a time, far far away
as those stories all like to start
there were very heated debates
as all sides sought resolutions

these days that seems to be past
collective bargaining an expense
no real value in solving conflict
bargain like Washington instead

no compromising on principles
no matter how self serving
claim stubbornness the cause
and blame the other side for it

small separations don't exist
everything becomes a major issue
do not give in to pressures
remain firm no matter how silly

once upon a time, closer to home
common sense will return to us
and partisan obduracy vanish
true compromises to find again

The Ninety Seventh, Apr. 6, 2011

Kites sitting on the wind
wishing something more
wanting to dance and run
you can see it in their eyes

how like the spirit they are
held in check by a string
held in a firm strong hand
not letting go control

the string of authority
seeming to restrain us
we feel it holds us back
but it only helps us soar

the hand that holds us
leads and guides us
leads us to that place
and we sit on the wind

The Ninety Sixth, Apr. 5, 2011

abstract thinking again
wondering why ducks
no idea why ducks
just ducks are there

random bits of nothing
like flies getting stuck
ideas cling to the strip
forming no coherency

distracted by shiny
glitter holds attention
can't focus on anything
scattered images float

it is like having a fever
shifting constant flux
nothing lasts forever
somethings not at all

lost in my own mind
while never moving
looking at the colors
concentration impossible

another day of wonder
seeking a child's awe
finding the beauty
never looking beyond

time now to focus in
on being responsible
and wake up to reality
such a sudden change

The Ninety Fifth, Apr. 4, 2011

a random act of kindness
a smile given just because
a tiny bit of nothing to us
can change their world

their story cannot be known
with just a fleeting glance
assuming from an image
never bothering to care

a simple thank you given
often catching by surprise
delivers a sense of gratitude
making another's life happier

Thank you for YOUR random acts

The Ninety Fourth, Apr. 3, 2011

today I saw some blue
dancing across the sky
spinning and twirling
a tango with the clouds

today the dance is over
the blue has left the sky
and gray controls all
the only blue is mood

it is hard to feel joy
or thrill about the day
with cold and dark
the atmosphere I see

I miss the spring
that teased so shortly
I know it went away
I watched geese fly south.....

The Ninety Third, Apr. 2, 2011

Sunshine brightens the lawn
squirrels frolicking around
those nasty evil tree rodents
tormenting the poor dogs

no, wait, no tormenting
dogs are too busy sleeping
soaking up the sunshine
it is a hard life they live

they keep vigilant watch
protecting me from harm
in the sun with eyes closed
scaring the evils with snores

I love those two clueless mutts!

The Ninety Second, Apr. 1, 2011

Do we really need a day
to honor being the fool
when we act the part
already nearly every day?

I feel the timing is wrong
we need to move this
instead of April 1st
it should be in November

The first tuesday will do
then perhaps for a change
we would fall for the prank
and elect a worthy one

The Ninety First, Mar. 31, 2011

you look my way but do not see
I watch your eyes lose focus
you deliberately see beyond me
though you may not even know

you look away as you approach
moving nonchalantly to the side
avoiding any chance of contact
as though I am a fatal a disease

You assume I am nothing
you assume I have no value
you assume most incorrectly
but you are too blind to see

yet you do not even know me
have never seen me before
you judge on your impression
revealing your ignorance

I am a person the same as you
not worse, but perhaps better
I understand my blindness
and so I seek to open my eyes

and so before you judge another
you need to look with your heart
not with your distorted glasses
of biased social misconceptions

when you find the true value
you may be shocked to see
that the value is not within you
but is found in things you miss

The Ninetieth, Mar. 30, 2011

Dear Founding Fathers
Oh! how you are missed
as democracy bends over
without even being kissed

Your pains and struggles
are fading from our sights
as we knuckle under fears
signing away our rights

Fear of failed Wall Street
the illusion of free money
fear of failed economy
no more milk and honey

fearing hostile agressions
from foreign extremists
never thinking to fear
those within our midst

we've lost the words of F.D.R.
or put them on a shelf
"The only thing we have
to fear is fear itself"

Where are our heroes
Jefferson, Henry, Paine
with words of fiery zeal
and give us courage again

We the People of These United States.....

The Eighty Ninth, Mar. 29, 2011

what is in your heart
what is in your wallet
which is more important
and who really cares

my heart is full
my wallet empty
and I know I care
I like my priorities

The Eighty Eighth, Mar. 28, 2011

have you ever watched:
a kitten play with string?
a puppy chase its tail?
a foal kicking up heels?

have you ever heard:
a baby giggle?
a toddler sing?
a preschooler laugh?

these sights and sounds
can so fill our lives
if we stop and let them
reminding us to have fun

life is not so important
to hurry through so fast
that we don't take time
to giggle, sing and play

Find your inner child
and hold on to it tightly
hugging the innocence
and feeling the wonder

never let yourself grow
so far distant and cold
but remember the child
and live the joy of life

Sunday, March 27, 2011

The Eighty Seventh, Mar. 27, 2011

morning news from around the world
showing events in far distant places
telling of people I will never know
yet the stories effect my life as well

freedoms sought with desperation
fighting long odds and tradition
seeking a way of life unknown
a region in turmoil hoping for peace

the struggle is universal and eternal
sought though never fully achieved
true freedom, the impossible dream
and yet we continure the fight

sadly some no longer believe in it
and sell theirs for imagined wealth
giving away rights to feed the greed
and new power mongers surface

the vicious cycle begins again
where once we were so close
and freedom yet again slips away
tyranny born of the lust for power

And so the world turns on

Saturday, March 26, 2011

The Eighty Sixth, Mar. 26, 2011

alone in a crowd
watching the faces
seeing glazed eyes
no lights on inside

faces passing by blur
each one like the rest
all vacant expressions
seemingly lost, adrift

smiles with no warmth
drooping at the ends
not really even there
sent to no one at all

they head off alone
replaced by another
looking just the same
the world continues

do they have a home
with the life and love
warmth and happiness
missing from the crowd?

I hope that is is so.

The Eighty Fifth, Mar. 25, 2011

foot taps on its own
knee keeps bouncing
can't sit still right now
excitement fills me

anticipation on the rise
need to make big plans
though still too soon
must make them NOW

adventure awaits me
something so very new
finding it hard to wait
feels like Christmas

bubbling enthusiasim
a giddy little boy
want it to be tomorrow
why do I have to wait?

it is finally setting in
the trip is taking place
really will be going
to a place out of my dreams

I wonder if they are ready....

The Eighty Fourth, Mar. 24, 2011

I am lost in the silence
that once was filled
with a voice of reason
now sadly gone away

no songs being sung
to lift the faltering soul
stalwartly leading on
through the darkness

no more happy laughter
of children playing
their peals floating out
giving to all a smile

no sounds at all today
there is only silence
my mind is empty
no voices call out

my inspiration falters
a new old occurrence
growing far too common
for 1/4 the way home

The Eighty Third, Mar. 23, 2011

Macbook on the charger
iPod on the charger
cell phone on the charger
smart pen on the charger

I love modern technology
making things easier
everything wireless now
simply recharge and go

now if only I had a charger too....

The Eighty Second, Mar. 22, 2011

The Next Step

With new discoveries
come new challenges
new paths unfolding
waiting to be followed

I stand in deep darkness
seeing nothing ahead
but feel many directions
lie opened before me

there is no certainty
of even where I stand
much less where to step
which road to follow

voices whisper to me
from beyond the dark
calling me to them
saying follow, follow

my foot lifts slightly
hovering over nothing
waiting for answers
that no one can give

the voices still call
but I cannot comply
they are not my voice
it is not their choice

how then do I decide
and where wil I step
what if I choose wrong
or must I choose again

a new apprehension
this darkness never fades
and always I will stand
foot poised over nothing

one more to set aside
another fear to pass
to overcome its hold
I simply have to step

with breath held
with eyes closed
with heart pounding
I step......

The Eighty First, Mar. 21, 2011

A Journey Begins

cold clenching fist within
anxiety rises unbidden
reaction to the situation
and I cannot put it aside

there is no justification
and no acceptable reason
for feeling physically ill
for me, it simply happens

a slow constant building
gnawing at me from inside
churning away in my stomach
I feel the coldness even now

it comes to me at night
when defenses are down
as sweet sleep soothes me
it torments my dreams

cold sweat on my brow
hands clench and release
I lie panting and gasping
nightmares dancing still

I wake still hearing the voices
taunting me from the dream
and fear they are right
I will always be a failure

I push myself to excel
to be the best at what I do
while procrastinating also
because I live with my fear

I live with paradoxical fear
that I will certainly fail
and the other, far greater
the fear that I will succeed

procrastination is but the child
born of this unhealthy war
that rages in my world
seeking to take my sanity

from looking deep within
one can see the hidden truths
changing forever the image
you see in the mirror each day

my journey must continue.
